Postcard Press Picks:
How to Travel When You Can’t Leave Home
With everything going on in the world, the one thing you may not have anticipated in 2020 was a pandemic keeping you from exploring. COVID-19, also known as the coronavirus, has infected more than a million worldwide, killed thousands, and affected billions. Countries across the world are closing their borders and ordering residents to stay at home (as of publication, more than a third of the world’s population is under some form of lockdown), all in an effort to stem the spread of this highly infectious virus.
When it comes to travel, most of us may have had plans canceled, some of us may have found a dream trip cut short, and none of us know when this will get better.
But it will get better. And when it does, the world will be ready to see your smiling faces, and those of us with wanderlust will be back out there.
Until then, we’re all making the smart decision to practice self-isolation and social distancing. This means no traveling (seriously, stop it!) and no hanging out with friends (consider virtual happy hours!), and instead, helping to protect those in our community who are most vulnerable to this virus. Remember, just because you don’t feel sick, doesn’t mean you can’t make others sick.
While you’re at home all day working and living, you may start to get a little bored. So, we’ve put together some Postcard Press resources to help fill your days and calm your travel bug (even for just a little bit).
When you’re looking for something to watch
We can work from home. So, why not travel from home? There are so many wonderful travel shows out there; here are just a few from the Postcard Press AV Club to get your virtual trip around the world started.
- Postcard Press Picks: Street Food
- Postcard Press Picks AV Club: K-Dramas (It’s not in the article, but check out Memories of the Alhambra, which has some beautiful Spanish views, too).

- Postcard Press Picks: Dark Tourist
When you’re looking for something to read
Taking a break from screen time? With the weather getting warmer, you can grab a book and find an isolated spot outside. Of course, you don’t have to go outside. Reading from your couch or bed works well, too. These recommendations from the Postcard Press Reading Club can help inspire your wanderlust.
When you’re looking for something to listen to
Getting some things done around the house? Whether you’re cooking or doing some spring cleaning, you may want something to listen to. The Postcard Press AV Club has some options for you.
When you’re planning that post-coronavirus trip
Sometimes the best way to satisfy that wanderlust is to start planning the next trip. We don’t know when we’ll be able to travel again, but these resources will help you dream about your next destination (and it’s the perfect time to save some money).
